Over the past ten years I’ve talked to thousands of dog owners who’ve lost and found a missing dog. Because I tend to look for interrelated behaviors (both human and animal), I’ve noticed that many of these dog owners had certain behavioral patterns in common that I believe were instrumental in helping them recover the pet. They act quickly.
Though most dog owners do act quickly when a dog vanishes, you’d be surprised at the number of people who believe that their dog will come back on his own, or will end up at the shelter where it’s easy to pick him up.
