I worked a case a few years ago that involved a housecat that had jumped from the second story of an apartment building. The owner assumed the cat, Casey, would be safe on the balcony and never imagined that he would fall. Something must have frightened the cat, because one day the kitty was gone. He was last seen perched on the balcony and was nowhere to be found inside the apartment.
At the time, I did not have access to a cat-detection dog. I knew from Casey’s profile that this kitty probably had not traveled very far. He was a temperamentally cautious cat. He was calm most of the time inside the apartment where he lived, but he spooked easily by sudden noises.
He fell from the balcony on April 6th and I responded on April 12th, after his owner found my website. Since no one saw Casey fall, I searched the inside of the apartment first.
